A Norwich Clean Cities stakeholder is a member of a national organization. There are no membership fees and no obligations. However, as a stakeholder, we commit to:
- Supporting the goals of the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities Program
- Working with other coalition stakeholders to promote the use of alternative fuel vehicles, increase vehicle mileage and reduce heavy duty vehicle idling
- Partner with other Clean Cities stakeholders to create gasoline or diesel reduction programs and/or air quality improvement programs.
In 2009 Norwich Clean City stakeholders have partnered with other Clean Cities stakeholders in Connecticut on multiple programs. The Clean Cities partnership was awarded $26M of 2010FY funding. Another round of grant funding is expected for FY2011 for which Connecticut Clean Cities will compete. We would like our current and new stakeholders to join us for this competition.
As a Norwich Clean Cities stakeholder, we receive the information needed to make informed decisions on the use of AFVs for area businesses and to network with others in this rapidly expanding field. We have been successfully participating in the Clean Cites Program since 1992.
Stakeholder Participation
Stakeholder participation is essential to the success of Norwich Clean Cities. Therefore, we:
- Urge members to attend regular meetings and participate in the steering committee and working groups.
- Use stakeholders and the steering committee as resources to generate positive, frequent media coverage.
- Develop a plan for accomplishing reasonable, well-supported goals.
- Establish task groups to split the workload, build support for goals, and facilitate progress.
- Partner with air quality officials to create regional pollution-reduction plans that include the five technology areas, which helps give Clean Cities members access federal funding.
Designation is not a rubber stamp that denotes a community as "clean." It is a process that can take at least two years to complete.
